Barco Launches Next Generation 5 MegaPixel Grayscale Display Medical display specialist Barco has launched a new generation of its Nio 5MP diagnostic display system. The new display system raises the bar with several technological advancements that lead to higher optical performance, more efficient workflow and a longer product lifetime.

One of the main advancements that have raised the diagnostic accuracy of the new Nio 5MP to the next level is the integration of a brand-new LCD panel based on IPS (In-plane switching) technology. Thanks to this new panel, grayscale images are presented with more brightness, improved contrast and better black uniformity, under any ambient light condition. Furthermore, the new panel sets itself apart with its extra high resolution of 2096 x 2800, while at the same time still supporting the 2048 x 2560 standard.

Besides more brightness, contrast and resolution, the new Nio 5MP also scores high on luminance uniformity. Responsible for this is the integrated uniformity correction function, which spreads the luminance more evenly over the entire screen.

The new Nio 5MP comes as a turnkey solution, including a high-speed display controller and an online system for calibration and Quality Assurance. With this smart ‘MediCal QAWeb’ system, users are guaranteed of maximum diagnostic confidence and uptime of their PACS display systems by means of automated DICOM calibration, Quality Assurance, display asset management, problem solving and reporting. Moreover, the system ensures worry-free compliance with regional QA standards like AAPM TG-18, MQSA and DIN6868-57.

“With the introduction of this new Nio 5MP, radiology departments can now opt for a versatile visualization solution that is optimized for the very latest, high-resolution grayscale applications, including chest, orthopedic, pediatric and mammography imaging on PACS,” explains Danny Deroo, Product Manager at Barco. “The product’s unique resolution of 2096 x 2800 allows users to view images from digital mammography systems in their native resolution with minimal need for scrolling. This results in accurate readings and improved workflow efficiency.”
